On February 3, 2024, the UTRC ran a 7k through the Annex’s green spaces and ended at Hot Black Coffee on Queen St. We started the run at the UC Steps where we asked our 31 attendees what they would put in their coffee if milk, cream, sugar, cinnamon, and honey did not exist. We received a plethora of answers including vanilla extract, chocolate, lavender, or nothing.
A comprehensive list of the parks we ran through are The Philosopher’s Walk, Taddle Creek Park, Huron Street Playground, Huron Street Junior Public School, Jean Sibelius Square, Gwendolyn Macewen Parkette, Robert Street Park, Margaret Fairley Park, The Doctors’ Parkette, Sonya’s Park, Julius Deutsch Park, and Grange Park.
We picked up two stragglers along the run before ending at Hot Black Coffee. The owner of Hot Black Coffee, Momiji, was kind enough to offer us a 15% discount on their Russian Tea, a delicious blend of earl grey tea and apricot jam.
Here is what the UTRC had to say about Hot Black Coffee:
“Best latte I have ever had.”
“The Russian Tea has a vibrant Flavor – I really like it.”
“The latte is very soft and not too sweet. It has a good and full texture.”
“The iced latte is pretty good. I like the floor here with its brutalism style.”
“The Russian Tea is a 9.2/10. I didn’t choose 9.3 because I don’t like odd numbers. The drink has a good balance between acidic and sweet. The temperature is not too hot unlike Tim Hortons whom make their coffee too hot. I like the lights inside the shop.”
The UTRC had a great time and loved the store. We look forward to coming back soon!
